Equipment Spotlight Part 2: The Mel Meter
What is the Mel Meter? Well according to the "paranormal dictionary" (http://paranormaldictionary.com/wiki/Mel_Meter) :
The Mel Meter was designed and developed by Gary Galka of DAS Distribution Inc. Gary lost his oldest of three daughters, Melissa. After Melissa’s passing, some incredible things started to happen to Gary and his family. Melissa began to make her presence known through numerous ADC’s (after death communications) to Gary and his family. Gary designed the Mel Meter as a way to communicate with his daughter whom Gary says helped with the healing process.
The device is named after his daughter 'Mel' and the model number is her year of birth 87 and her year of passing 04 - "Mel-8704". For a long time there have been theories that spirits can manipulate the energy fields that surround us. These theories go on to say that energy is heat so when it’s transferred from one location to another it leaves behind a cold spot.
The Mel Meter takes what's good about the K-II and tweeks it... A LOT
The Mel Meter simultaneously registers EMF/Temperature/vibration with a back lighted screen to make it easier to see in the dark from a distance. It is also believed that spirits naturally emit an 'extremely low frequency' (ELF) EMF... The Mel is more capable of reading this ELF than a K-II. It is currently 20Hz lower than a K-II so it can specifically addresses the ELF issue.
What is nice about the temperature gauge, is it shows you changes in temperature as a spirit moves around. It is believed a spirit gathers energy from its surroundings to communicate or manifest, which is why you feel cold spots around you as spirits make themselves known. Thanks to the Mel Meter, you not only get the fluctuations in EMFs that could mean a spirit is nearby... it also gauges the change in temperature which can corroborate personal experiences and EMF changes.
One of my favorite features is the red navigational flashlight. When you are in the dark, it takes some time for your eyes to adjust. Once adjusted, a bright flashlight can blind you and cause you to need to take time to readjust your vision. The red light navigation light not only lights the way well enough for you to move around with ease, it does not affect your vision which has adjusted to the dark. That is a big plus.
The thing that is such a plus about the Mel Meter compared to other investigative pieces of equipment... is that the Mel Meter was SPECIFICALLY designed FOR paranormal investigation.
However, again... I call on everyone to remember the most important piece of equipment is your eyes and ears. If you stare at a meter allowing for it to change in front of your eyes, your eyes may miss that full body apparition or that ghostly shadow flying down the hall. Use it as a tool, but be attentive to your surroundings.
in recent months, even since I got my own Mel Meter... the price has become much more reasonable. Before you couldn't find it for under $130. I have recently started seeing some places selling them for $98. It is pricier than a K-II... but for someone who wants the paranormal to be more than just a hobby... if you really want to investigate, research and try to learn more about the paranormal, this is a great tool to have.
