Insidious 3 Review

B+/A-

Insidious 3 was pretty good. (Spoilers)

It kind of brings everyone full circle. It explains that Elise (the psychic) predicted the events of her death in the first movie... she knew how she would die and by whom. It also showed how she came to know Specs and Tucker. There's even a cameo by Darth Maul (who is the main demon in Insidious 1 - you'll get the Darth Maul joke if you see the first Insidious.) lol

The movie was okay. if I had to rate the three films... I'd say:

1st - First movie
2nd - Third installment
3rd - Second chapter

They were all good in their own ways, but I feel 1 and 3 have a level of believability to it, where as the 2nd chapter kind of had a typical Hollywood feel. Though still done well, I wish it had the same flare the first movie had.

This 3rd installment was pretty good though, but it wasn't perfect.

It seemed a little rushed. Instead of giving you a taste of who the characters were... it just jumped right into the haunting. You never got a chance to really care about the characters. Elise, Specs and Tucker, sure - because they were from the other 2 installments... but the main family - no. Like the boy who lived next door that had an obvious crush on the main girl... he basically disappears as we start getting into the action - where any other movie would have thrown him into a "This is the girl I love, I'll help her" kind of role.

So that was a bit disappointing. However, when Elise was part of the movie, and we saw her back history, and got a glimpse into her future, and why she does what she does... it was interesting and entertaining.

I'm hoping next installment (if there is an Insidious 4) they go all out and not rush things. Give us a chance to get to know the characters, so what if the movie is 2 hours instead of 1:37?

It is still a solid movie and I enjoyed it a lot more than "Spy" which I saw the day before. "Spy" wasn't bad... it was just a lot of good jokes mixed in some really bad, unnecessary jokes and way too much swearing. Even rappers don't swear that much on their explicit lyrics albums. lol
